Ballarat’s Speed Limit Blasted

Over Limit lived upped to the hype last night smashing Ballarat’s 450m track-record, stopping the clock at a stunning 24.766 seconds.

The previous record, held by 2013 TAB Melbourne Cup winner Black Magic Opal (24.874 seconds), was set in March and has been rarely challenged.

That all changed in race eight last night, as the exciting son of Cosmic Rumble and Nova Surf burned from box three and bolted home to win by an increasing 10.38 lengths.

The record performance was the eighth win from 10 starts for the youngster who truly announced himself at Geelong last Friday night when running a blistering 25.251 seconds over the 460m. That time was some three lengths faster than Luca Neveelk’s stunning Geelong Cup victory.

Trainer Darren McDonald has a big opinion of his young star saying that his physique is reminiscent of one of the greatest greyhounds ever to live.

“Physically he reminds me of Brett Lee,” McDonald said.

McDonald didn’t say Over Limit had the lofty talents of Brett Lee just yet, he only commented on their physical similarities.

Over Limit will most likely bypass the TAB Melbourne Cup series due to his age (he has just turned two) and will attack the Ballarat Cup series in early December where he will be one of the favourites to win the race after last night’s run.
