Former Test Skipper Ricky Ponting has weighed into the battle tonight between his star greyhound Rumbling Rick and Beckenbauer, who is owned by his former Aussie teammate James Pattinson.

“Patto and I are both pretty competitive blokes. Having our own head to head race within race 10 tonight will be a bit of fun,” Ponting said.

“My fella is going really well at the moment so I’m hoping he will beat Patto’s dog and win the race as well. We just need a bit of room to that all important first turn at Sandown.”

The much anticipated clash, which will see Rumbling Rick exit Box 5 and Beckenbauer Box 7, has drawn plenty of public interest.
