Zoom Top Winner Gets The Nod

Cheetah Zorro has been voted the Most Popular Greyhound for February by visitors to GRV’s Facebook page.

After qualifying for voting after winning the Group 1 Zoom Top at The Meadows on 15 February at massive odds of $42.30, Cheetah Zorro won 36 per cent of votes when edging out fellow finalists (in alphabetical order) Frosty Jay Jay, Hawk Alone and Paw Licking.

That was the second Group 1 won by Cheetah Zorro, who was bred and is owned in Tasmania and trained in Victoria by Robert Britton.

“She’s an unsung hero,” said part-owner Colin Garity. “She doesn’t get the recognition that the superstar greyhounds get, but she tries real hard and people like that in greyhounds.”

“While I’m the first to admit she was a bit lucky to win the (Group 1) Bold Trease (at Sandown) in November, there was no doubting her win in the Zoom Top.”

“She trailed Benarkin by five lengths and led by four going into the catching pen..it was an outstanding performance.”

Cheetah Zorro is currently on the sidelines with an injured hock, but will likely be back in time for a crack at the Sandown Cup.

She joins January’s Greyhound of the Month winner Walk Alone in the running for the 2014 Most Popular Greyhound of the Year.
