DEDICATION, COMMON SENSE CRUCIAL TO SUCCESS
 
A career in sport appeals to a lot of people, and in an industry where annual prize money levels are at $40 million in Victoria alone, training greyhounds can be extremely rewarding.

However, to succeed as a trainer it is imperative to: a) have access to galloping runs to exercise your greyhounds in; and, b) spend time working closely with a successful trainer to learn the intricacies of the sport.

Champion trainer Darren McDonald has given the likes of Mario Briganti, Graeme Jose and John Delaroche a start in the sport, and all three have become established greyhound trainers in their own right.

More recently, McDonald, of Devon Meadows, employed cricketer Darren Pattinson, the Australian who famously played one test for England, and who is the brother of champion Aussie pace bowler, James Pattinson.
