Lyon “honoured” to have greyhound named after him
Any doubt about Garry Lyon’s support for his new greyhound namesake Hairy Garry have been dispelled after the Footy Show co-host made contact with part-owner Matt Fruvall during the week.
Lyon is the target of constant ribbing from the Footy Show team about the excessive hair on his body, and while he sometimes appears to let it all get to him, he has embraced Hairy Garry the greyhound.
“I got a phone call from Garry on Monday telling me how honoured he was to have a greyhound named after him.”

“I was pleasantly surprised by the call, and Garry said he is very keen to follow the dog’s progress throughout his entire career,” said Fruvall, of South Morang.
Hairy Garry has fast become a revelation since he appeared on the Footy Show on May 3, and Fruvall said he expected none of this sort of hype when he named the dog.
“I am a ‘friend’ of the Footy Show on Facebook and a couple of weeks ago I wrote a comment saying how I had named one of my greyhounds Hairy Garry because when we gave him bath and a brush before getting him broken-in enough hair came off him to fill two plastic bags from the supermarket.”
“Before I knew it Channel Nine got in contact with me wanting to know all about the dog and were wondering if they could get him on the show. It has all happened so quickly.”
