BALLARAT CUP BLACKOUT

Up And Away showed the composure of a champion to win the 2011 Ballarat Cup on Wednesday night.

In a night of great drama, a blackout occurred at Morshead Park just ten minutes before the scheduled running of the Ballarat Cup thanks to a local power failure.

Having been led into the parade yard, the eight finalists had to be returned to the kennel as Stewards assessed the situation.

With electricity slowly returning, Stewards made the call to push the meeting back one race, and when the Group 2 event finally got underway at 9:38pm it was the Graeme Bate-trained Up And Away who began best.

The fawn dynamo led briefly before Lektra Express took over, however it was to be Up And Away
