Despite the bulk of Victoria’s stars in Adelaide and Sydney tomorrow night it’s a pretty decent card at Sandown Park tonight. The meeting’s biggest point of interest is powerhouse Dramatical returning to city class racing for the first time since a heat of the Maturity at The Meadows in July – he lines up in Race 6. As well as Whiskey Whiskers stepping up to the staying distance of 715m in Race 8.
Catch a wrap of the meeting and much more on Friday’s edition of Grey Areas with George Farrugia and myself, live from midday on the Watchdog App and available afterwards on YouTube and Spotify
BEST
Race 3, Lakeview Pear (4)
He is absolutely ready to win races over this distance. He stepped up to it (600m) last start at The Meadows, there was plenty of hustle and bustle but he finished off well. Tonight with just the five rivals, he should find it easier to get clear. Pending he does we’ll see what he’s made of over this distance.
NEXT BEST
Race 2, Compton Gypsy (7)
Her recent form isn’t glamorous but not too long before that batch she was racing consistently well at Angle Park. She’s got the ability and has recently joined the Kayla Cottrell camp, who have a knack of getting greyhounds to begin well. Despite her being first up in Victoria I’m confident she’d be prepared well enough to win.
VALUE
Race 4, Victory Barry (8)
This race is pretty open. I think this fella has what it takes to be very handy over this middle-distance. The small field suits him a lot given his lack of initial speed out of the boxes, two vacant draws on his immediate inside doesn’t hurt his chances either. He’s no lock but his potential reflects value.
WORTH THE RISK/TAKE ON
Race 12, Breach (1)
She’s the even money favourite and I don’t mind being against her. The speed map looks quite even and she will want to leave room between her and the rail. She’s young and her future looks quite bright but I don’t think she should be a short favourite in this.
