Four Victorians qualify for Group 1 Adelaide Cup

Victoria will have a major presence in Friday night’s Group 1 Adelaide Cup at Angle Park, supplying half of the eight-greyhound field.

National Sprint champion Wrongly Accused will lead the Victorian charge after securing his place in the $100,000-to-the-winner final before Thursday night’s heats.

The Justin Nolan-trained star earned direct entry courtesy of his record-breaking victory in last week’s Match Race Challenge and will head into the Adelaide Cup fresh.

Wrongly Accused has drawn box three for the Group 1 decider – the same box from which he claimed his maiden Group 1 victory in the National Sprint Championship over 515m at Sandown Park in August.

Ned McDonald’s Like A Rock stamped his Adelaide Cup credentials with a brilliant performance in the heats, recording the fastest time of the night.

Like A Rock stopped the clock at 30.12sec over the 530m journey and has come up with box two for the final.

Jeff Britton will have two chances to add another South Australian feature to his resume, qualifying litter siblings Mepunga Envy and Mepunga Spirit

Mepunga Envy produced one of the most eye-catching performances of Thursday night’s heats, powering over the top of the leaders to secure her place in the final.

The siblings will start alongside one another in next week’s decider, with Mepunga Envy drawing box four and Mepunga Spirit box five.

The four Victorians will occupy boxes two through five, setting up a strong Victorian assault on one of South Australia’s biggest greyhound races.

The Group 1 Adelaide Cup will be run over 530m at Angle Park on Friday, October 9.

Like A Rock dominates the Adelaide Cup heats from box one.
