The most interesting contest at The Meadows tonight comes in Race 8 and Caco Magic is the headline act.
He lines up for just his fourth start since January after an interrupted year and importantly he gets back up to the 600m, which is his bread and butter.
We all know what he’s capable of – he famously stunned everyone on Phoenix night last year when he broke The Meadows’ 600m track record.
BEST
Race 12, Crackerjack Kev (4)
The amount of early speed throughout this field is rock bottom. I’m confident Crackerjack Kev and Zipping Sigrid (8) will go forward early, from that point onwards Kev should be able to go through his gears and quickly look the most likely winner. He’s the fastest dog in the race and only needs a clear crack.
NEXT BEST
Race 3, Opawa Postman (4)
The Postman is a recent arrival from New Zealand and his two starts at The Meadows have been solid, especially the most recent one. The vacant box on his outside can only be a positive. I feel he’s ready to take another step forward in his Australian career and win tonight.
VALUE
Race 6, Aston Machine (5)
The best dog in the race is Steal The Stage (8), however he can make mistakes in his races which has me looking for another option. The speed will come from all of the outside runners and Aston Machine will be the closest to the rail of those. He’ll probably need to trim up his overall time, but that’s a big chance with another go over this distance.
WORTH THE RISK/TAKE ON
Race 11, Prince Valhalla (1)
He’s one of the favourites but the race shape doesn’t look glamorous for him. He’s generally a poor beginner and has a strong intent to race wide on the track – those things combined makes box 1 unsuitable. Big podium hope for sure but I doubt they’ll go slow enough for him to recover and win.
