Tuesday races cancelled, Meadows to Sunday

Tuesday’s race meetings at Healesville, Geelong and Warragul have all been abandoned in line with GRV’s Hot Weather Policy, with temperatures forecast to tip into the 40s across Victoria.

The swift move to abandon those meetings with four days’ notice follows a decision earlier this week to shift Saturday’s meeting at The Meadows to Sunday, to avoid Saturday’s extreme heat.

Saturday’s Geelong twilight meeting has already cancelled, one of a number of race meetings abandoned so far this summer due to hot weather.

But a new meeting has been added to Wednesday’s schedule, with Geelong set to host a twilight meeting after Bendigo’s card was shifted to the morning.

Racing at The Meadows on Sunday will get underway at 5.57pm, and there’s plenty to look forward to with two standout contests set to light up the program.

The first is Race 4, the staying event, where the in‑form Texas President is expected to headline betting. The Sale Cup runner‑up was impressive last week when claiming his first victory over the 700 metres at Sandown Park and shapes as a major player again.

Another feature comes in the Free‑For‑All (Race 8), with crowd‑favourite Motion Sensor returning to the big smoke for the first time since September. He arrives in red‑hot form after rattling off four consecutive wins at Horsham and will be looking to continue that momentum on the city stage.

With the Sportsbet Australian Cup Carnival just around the corner, anticipation is building. Click here for full race and event information.

2024 Sandown Cup winner Irish Millie is among the stars lining up at The Meadows on Sunday.
