Wentworth Park’s 520 metre track record holder Dalwhinnie is now in the care of Team Greenough, as the talented chaser looks to reset after a frustrating injury-interrupted period.
Owner Terry Hines approached Kel Greenough to gauge his interest in training Dalwhinnie.
“Obviously they’ve had an incredibly tough last 12 months with the dog, and the decision to send him to us was to see if we could get a result,” trainer Brad Greenough said.
Dalwhinnie has had just two race starts in 2025, failing to finish better than seventh on both occasions.
His injury troubles began in December after a tumble at Wentworth Park, which halted his momentum.
Despite settling well into his new Victorian surroundings, Greenough confirmed a tilt at the upcoming Sale Cup is off the table.
“The time and preparation to even think about a Sale Cup is just too rushed at the moment, so he won’t be going there,” he said.
Dalwhinnie has been in Greenough’s care since the start of December, with no firm timeline placed on his return to the track.
“I think the dog will tell his own story on how long we have him for,” Greenough said.
“But we’ll be doing everything with his best interests at heart to try and get him back to his peak.”
