Dewana Star continued his incredible rise tonight, making it six wins in a row with a powerful victory in the Group 3 Northern Districts Cup at Shepparton.
The son of Hooked On Scotch and Dewana Classic showed group-class professionalism from the jump – spearing to the lead and holding firm despite a late challenge from Springers Boy, who also finished second to him in last week’s heats.
On a wet track, Dewana Star stopped the clock in a best-of-night 25.05 seconds. In the heats, at his first start over the 450 metres, he ran 24.90.
The 2025 Northern Districts Cup marks trainer Brendan Dewan’s second win in the race – having claimed the event nine years earlier with Dewana Result.
Dewan famously knocked back offers of $160,000 after Dewana Star’s Shepparton debut in October, where he fell just short of the track record.
“They could offer half a million dollars for him, and I still wouldn’t take it,” owner-trainer-breeder Brendan Dewan said.
