One of Victoria’s most influential greyhound racing administrators, Eddie Caruana, has been inducted into the Greyhound Racing Victoria Hall of Fame.

Caruana’s association with the sport stretches back more than 50 years, from his first visit to Olympic Park as a teenager to more than two decades as Chairman of the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA).

“I don’t know anyone in greyhound racing who has been more popular than Ed,” said Neil Brown, Sandown Park Chair and close friend of Caruana.

It was during his leadership that the MGRA made its boldest move – the relocation from Olympic Park and creation of The Meadows. Caruana was instrumental in shaping the venue into a world-class facility, home to the Australian Cup Carnival, Topgun and the innovative Phoenix.

His approachable style and belief in mentoring younger administrators was a trademark of his leadership.

“Hopefully the younger generation can take a leaf out of Eddie’s book and find a way to contribute back into the sport, through being on boards or committees,” said Scott Wuchatsch, CEO of Melbourne Greyhounds.

Caruana’s contribution has already been recognised with the Ken Carr Medal, life membership at both the MGRA and Sandown Greyhound Racing Club, and in 2023, induction into the Australian Greyhound Racing Hall of Fame.

His induction into the GRV Hall of Fame is further recognition for a lifetime of vision, service and passion.
