The Stir Up featuring Aston Rupee, Yachi Bale and Wow She’s Fast

GRV’s Peter Quilty, Gerard Guthrie and Trent Langskaill provide their thoughts on some of the best greyhounds and races in Victoria this year.

You can always keep track of your favourite greyhounds by saving them in your WatchDog Blackbook!

Quilts  Firstly, I hope everyone enjoyed a Merry Christmas and celebrated with family and friends. It’s unbelievable to think that 2022 draws to a close on Saturday night.

Gerard  Trent and I echo your sentiments, Quilts. It has been a sensational year for greyhound racing in Victoria going all the way back to Zippy Tesla storming home in the Silver Chief Final on January 1.

Trent  It’s been over nine months since we saw Aston Rupee race, but his two performances at The Meadows in February’s Australian Cup Carnival were extraordinary.

Quilts  The Sandown Cup Final in May was one of the best races in 2022. Untapped and Jarick Bale staged a terrific battle with Untapped being able to secure an all-the-way triumph.

Gerard  That meeting also had Wow She’s Fast thrashing her rivals in the Sapphire Crown Final, which was a month after her devastating performance in the Launching Pad Final.

Quilts  From a country cups perspective, Typhoon Sammy was the undisputed king for 2022 with victories at Traralgon, Horsham and Bendigo. It was great to see Ferdinand Boy claim his fourth country cup at Warrnambool in May.

Trent  We finish with the unforgettable Dream Chasers Festival that started with two reserves – Photo Man (sprinters) and Moraine Suzie (stayers) – taking out the Topguns.

Gerard  Melbourne Cup night had arguably the best 50 minutes of chasing ever seen. Stagger Out Lee amazed in the Bold Trease Final, the Sportsbet Showdown between Wow She’s Fast and Amron Boy was enthralling, and Yachi Bale dazzled in the Melbourne Cup Final.

Trent  Amron Boy was desperately unlucky throughout the Dream Chasers Festival, but we saw his undeniable talent in the Group 1 Silver Chief Final on December 10.

Quilts  The Phoenix was unbelievable and Wow She’s Fast etched her name into folklore by not only going back-to-back, but also becoming the first greyhound to surpass $2 million in prize money.
