Keefe belief

Yuroke trainer Terry Reid says Keefe may prove a surprise packet in a Restricted Win (0-4 Wins) GDR over 680 metres at Warragul tonight.

A recent G1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers finalist (725m) at The Meadows, Keefe has been quoted as an $8 chance by expert form analyst The Watchdog.

However, Reid’s assessment is “he’ll be lucky to be $3”. “He’s back in his own grade and is a lot better than his form suggests,” Reid said. “He’s got no early pace but if he gets a look in, he’s a real chance.”

Keefe (Dec ’17 My Bro Fabio x Sass) will exit from box two, which he has had on four previous occasions without success. But it should be noted that he’s notched four wins, one second and four thirds in 10 starts from box one.

The Watchdog says: Better than form, can charge home, threat.

“If he finds the fence, he’ll stay on the rails… And the 680-metre trip won’t worry him,” Reid added.

Reid also has a healthy respect for Snake Pit Lass ($4.60), Fleck ($4.80) and Dewana Classic ($7.50) in the event.

Owned by Reid, along with wife Gwenda and daughter Kylie, Keefe has started 32 times for four wins, two seconds and 12 thirds.

His dam, Sass, was a handy NSW sprinter who won 11 races from 30 starts.

Keefe is engaged in Race 4 Box 2 at 7.49pm.

WATCH: Keefe (1) record a best-of-day 34.56sec over 600m at The Meadows.
