Shootout Field Lands

The field has landed for this Friday’s Group 3 $40,000 Shootout at Sandown Park.

The four-dog race will see Barefoot Zulu, Canya Tornado, Canya Ponga and Colac Kid do battle. Tim Zoo and Nigel Devere are the reserves, with allocation of reserves to be random if there is to be a scratching.

This year’s edition is the first where the field has been totally made up of greyhounds who have qualified through fastest times at Sandown Park in the second half of the year – with the conditions as follows.

The four-dog field is open to any greyhounds who have competed at Sandown Park from 1st July 2025 to 10th November 2025. The four fastest nominated greyhounds will secure a place in the race, ordered by their recorded times.

Last year was the first edition that saw time based entry, which evolved from previous conditions of four best greyhounds suited to the format as determined by the club and GRV.

Other greyhounds nominated were Accredited, Paw Quinby, Paw Vortex, Slick Splits, Smooth Plane, Tribeca, Vincent Bale and Whiskey Whiskers.

It’s part of a big card of racing, which will also see the $113,500 Group 2 Laurels final – where Zipper On Time is the favourite after a superb heat win last week, making it 11 wins from 12 starts.

We’ll also see the last round of Sportsbet Melbourne Cup Preludes, where winners will guarantee themselves a spot in Cup heats Saturday week.
