Explicit crowned Victorian Greyhound of the Year

Australia’s best sprinter, Explicit, has been announced Victorian Sprinter and Greyhound of the Year for 2024/25, capping off a career-defining season of dominance.

Explicit stamped his dominance on the sport with both of Victoria’s signature races. The first of them was a professional performance in the Melbourne Cup solidifying his reputation as a big‑race performer.

He followed that with a breathtaking finale in The Phoenix at The Meadows in December, delivering a fitting ending to what was touted as the final start of his career.

A Melbourne Cup-Phoenix double – something we may not see for a very long time.

He then made a shock return to racing in March, despite high popularity at stud. Two months later he went back-to-back in the Ballarat Cup.

Complementing his big race successes, he started favourite in the Brisbane Cup, Million Dollar Chase, Topgun and Sandgroper.

He won 15 of his 22 races for the season.

“I hope he’s more remembered for being a stud dog than a race dog. Fernando Bale is remembered for his greatness as a sire. If Explicit can do half as good as what he’s done, we’d be rapt,” said Jason Thompson, trainer of Explicit.

While this accolade sums up his 2024/25 season, the country’s best sprinter isn’t done yet as he still seems at the peak of his powers entering the business end of year.
