Victorian greyhound racing throws its support behind Victoria Police

Greyhound Racing Victoria stands in solidarity with Victoria Police and the wider community following the tragic loss of two police officers, Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart, killed in the line of duty at Porepunkah last Tuesday.

Their courage, dedication, and sacrifice in protecting our community will never be forgotten.

To honour their memory and show our unwavering support for the police force and their families, GRV will be raising funds this September for the Victorian Police Legacy Remembrance Fund, with 100 per cent of funds raised going directly to the Thompson and De Waart families.

Each time the blue number four dog wins this September, GRV, Sportsbet and our clubs will co-contribute to the Fund. The fundraiser kicked off with Monday’s day meeting at Ballarat, with Hyland Azula saluting in the second race from box four.

Our clubs are also finding additional ways to contribute to Victoria Police in recognition and support of the outstanding work they do, with Shepparton hosting its annual Blue Ribbon Cup night on Saturday 11 October 2025, with all of the proceeds raised on that night going to their local branch.

Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the fallen officers, their colleagues in Victoria Police, and all who serve our community with bravery and selflessness each day.
