Top 10 in 10 | Times at The Bool

Following Matt Loch’s track record performance in last night’s Warrnambool Cup, there’s no better time to reflect on the 10 fastest runs at The Bool (450m) in the last 10 years.

Further to his claims as ‘King of The Bool’ after going back-to-back, he holds three of the six fastest times set there in the past decade.

Here’s the list which unsurprisingly is made up by rockets.

=9 – Shima Shine (24.757)
Equal 9th is Shima Shine. A winner of 37 of his 64 starts throughout his career and did the damage here in a heat of the 2021 Warrnambool Cup.

=9 – Explicit (24.757)
Shima Shine shares equal 9th with Explicit. At the time this was his seventh win on-the-trot. In his following start he won his first major with the 2024 Temlee at The Meadows.

8 – Bewildering (24.742)
One of the rockets of his era. He recorded wins at Sandown Park in 29.03, 29.12 and 29.18. He set this time at The Bool in the 2017 Warrnambool Classic defeating Up Hill Jill.

7 – Vincent Bale (24.731)
We don’t have to wind back the clock far for this one. ‘The Big V’ Vincent Bale takes off in a heat of this year’s Warrnambool Cup.

6 – Matt Loch (24.720)
Again, we don’t have to go far back for this one. The mighty Matt Loch in his heat of this year’s Warrnambool Cup.

5 – Unlawful Entry (24.719)
A former track record holder at Sandown Park and Warrnambool, this run was in a 2016 Cup heat. With some interference in running, you could argue he could’ve gone quicker!

4 – Matt Loch (24.717)
He’s at it again. This one in a common Mixed 4/5 graded race in April last year.

3 – Kelsey Bale (24.682)
She was absolutely humming at this point in time. This performance came in a 2023 Cup heat and she went on to win the final in fast time again.

2 – Dutch Riot (24.663)
A very sharp sprinter who was at the peak of his career. This blinding run was in a Mixed 4/5 race in December 2023.

1 – Matt Loch (24.636)
A dead set rocket of the country cup ranks. A massive back-to-back achievement and the cherry on top with his name now attached to the 450m track record.
