‘Wow’ is the hour

Will Wow She’s Fast land a Group 1 ‘triple crown’ in next Friday night’s Adelaide Cup final (530m) at Angle Park?

That seems a $100,000 rhetorical question as Victoria’s sprint queen is a short-priced $1.60 favourite in South Australia’s blue riband event – albeit she has drawn awkwardly in box five.

Prepared by ‘Team Greenough’, Wow She’s Fast ($1,175,870) – fifth on the all-time money list – won this year’s G1 Maturity Classic and G1 Sapphire Crown.

She also won last year’s inaugural $750,000 Phoenix purse, along with this year’s G3 Launching Pad and G3 Bill Collins Speed Star.

A winner of 15 races – including her past six – from 20 starts, Wow She’s Fast (Feb ’20 My Bro Fabio x Fair Of Face) was exempt from contesting last night’s Adelaide Cup heats after a track record-breaking effort in the SA vs All Stars Match Race Challenge.

She semaphored a sizzling 29.86sec, carving 1.5L off the previous mark (29.95sec) set by Aston Rupee in last year’s Match Race Challenge.

Wow She’s Fast will strive to give ‘Team Greenough’ (Jackie and Kel) its second Adelaide Cup, having saluted with Hotline Hero in 2004.

But ‘wow’s the day, and wow’s the hour’ also for her four compatriots – Fernando Mick (Box 3), Zippy Tesla (Box 4), Photo Man (Box 6) and Dusty Bourbski (Box 7) – which reached the final after last night’s six heats.

WOW SHE’S FAST is a raging hot favourite to collect her third G1 trophy in the Adelaide Cup.

Zippy Tesla – trained by ‘Team Dailly’ – was the quickest of the quartet, clocking a powerful 30.34sec win, while kennelmate Dusty Bourbski finished second (beaten 4.5L) to local star Mallee Magic in 30.12sec.

Meanwhile, Fernando Mick and Photo Man registered 30.39sec and 30.40sec wins respectively.

WATCH: ZIPPY TESLA (B2) produces an ‘electrifying’ victory in an Adelaide Cup heat.

Here are their odds for the final: Zippy Tesla ($6.50), Fernando Mick and Photo Man (both $9), and Dusty Bourbski ($14).

Pawnote: Victorians Hill Top Jack and Zara’s Ivan are first and second reserves.
