Andrea Dailly and her team are aiming to create history on Saturday night at The Meadows when they line up with Aston Cade in hope of their third consecutive Group 1 TAB Australian Cup victory.
‘Team Dailly’ have proven almost unstoppable in the race in recent years, winning five of the past 10 Australian Cups,
“It is a really special time for the entire team. There is no secret that we can think of to our Australian Cup wins, but our dogs do know the track very well,” co-trainer Tom Dailly said.
Aston Cade won his heat last week over the 525 metres as the second fastest qualifier (29.77sec) behind Melbourne Cup champion Whiskey Riot, and in the shortest margin of the night with just 0.01 lengths separating him and Shima Breeze who is the first reserve.
Watch: Aston Cade win a thrilling TAB Australian Cup heat from box 7.
“He is a good young dog who continues to improve with every start,” Dailly added.
Team Dailly and Aston Cade came away winners after drawing box one, with TAB punters already seeing value in the red draw. He has firmed into $6 after opening up at $7.
“Two to three months ago I would have said box one is the opposite to where he needs and wants to be, but recently he is becoming a lot smarter throughout his runs.”
“His run in the heats saw him hug close to Shima Breeze so he is now learning where he needs to be on the track to win good races,” Dailly said.
The 2020 TAB Australian Cup at The Meadows is scheduled to jump at 9.50pm.
Team Dailly also have Rockstar Beav in the Group 1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers Final who is quoted as a $10 chance with TAB.
