Simply Orson

Orson Allen ($2.20Fav) has won the 2019 Perth Cup with a commanding all-the-way performance on Saturday night at Cannington, securing his first Group 1 win and also the first for his trainer, Correy Grenfell.

Fresh from a sensational Horsham Cup campaign in which he broke the track record in the final, Orson Allen confirmed his status as the hottest greyhound sprinter in the land.

It was a Victorian trifecta in the Perth Cup, with Australian Cup winners Hecton Bale and Dyna Patty running second and third respectively.

Orson Allen’s winning time of 29.62sec was considerably slower than his 29.32sec heat win, but it mattered little as he collected a $150,000 first prize.

The fawn superstar stretched his run of wins to four, as he now has 25 victories from his 49 starts and has earned $473,645 in prize money.

Earlier, champion Victorian stayer Tornado Tears ($1.10Fav) overcame a mountain of interference to finish second in the Group 1 Galaxy (715m) to former Victorian Rockstar Patriot ($33.70).
