The greyhound community is saddened by the loss of Hugh Dunkley, just shy of his 89th birthday.
Hugh was a successful greyhound breeder and trainer, and up until recently he was a regular at the Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club.
“Hugh is a second-generation trainer who started training greyhounds in the early 1940s from the age of 12. He trained for legendary owner and bookmaker “Chummy” Parkes and also bred a litter than won over 200 races,” said Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club Manager, Amanda Cameron.
More recently Hugh bred and owned group class greyhound Violet Crumble (pictured), who contested the Group 1 Sapphire Crown and Group 2 Traralgon Cup.
A funeral for Hugh will be held at Tobin Brothers Chapel, 210 Sladen Street, Cranbourne (corner Cooper Court) on Monday 19 November at 11.00 am. A private burial will follow.
