Vale Brian Davis

The greyhound racing industry is saddened by the death overnight of greyhound trainer Brian Davis, who has been hospitalised in recent weeks.

Brian trained some handy greyhounds many years ago and was well known particularly at the Healesville Greyhound Association for selling products including collars and leads.

Son Mark Giddings, who has odds-on favourite Lioness Lulu engaged in tonight’s Group 3 Gold Cup at Wentworth Park, relayed the story about his dad’s final moments.

“Despite barely eating over the last two weeks, dad said he was hungry and thirsty at 3:00am this morning, so he was offered a sandwich and a can of coke, which he happily consumed.”

“He then asked the nurse to put his Collingwood (Football Club) hat on his head because he was going out. She asked him where he was going, at which point he grinned at her and said ‘I’m going to the races.’

“He then rolled over on his side and a short while later he passed away in his sleep,” Mark said.
