Two champions of the modern area – Sweet It is and Fernando Bale – delivered a Nationals Double for Victoria at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.
It is the first time since 2002 that Victoria has won the National Sprint and National Distance titles, and both wins were special in their own right.
Sweet It Is (Braden Finn) became just the second greyhound in Nationals history to win back-to-back National Distance Championships, with the only other greyhound to achieve that feat being Queenslander Boronia Blossom in 1995/6.
Her victory on Saturday night – in 41.52sec – lowered Xylia Allen’s Wentworth Park track record by .01sec.
Meanwhile, Fernando Bale (Andrea Dailly) made it 10 straight wins at Wentworth Park including four Group 1s, and he clocked the sensational time of 29.26sec in what was yet another faultless sprinting performance.
