Details of the competition were announced during GRVextra’s Australian Cup Preview, outlining that entrants were required to pick the winners of the Superstayers (Race 6) and the Australian Cup (Race 8) to go into the draw to win a $50 TAB voucher.
When Luna Jinx got up at such big odds, it left just one live entry, that belonging to Ben Burgin of Glenroy, and remarkably Ben also correctly picked Luca Neveelk ($4.50), pictured above, to win the Australian Cup, securing him the voucher. Not a bad effort in a competition limited to one entry per person.
Ben explained his reasoning behind picking the Luna Jinx/Luca Neveelk combination, greyhounds that incidentally are both blue in colour.
“Any greyhound trained by Len Ketelaar (Luna Jinx) is a chance in staying races because he knows how to train a stayer, and with Luca Neveelk my thinking was that about 50 per cent of races are won by the leading greyhound, and he was expected to lead so I went with him,” Burgin said.
“I watched both races at home on Sky Racing and it was so exciting when they got up.”
Not content with restricting his selections to the Hashtag Competition, Burgin also took the pair in a fixed odds double.
“I rolled them into each other on fixed odds and got 118/1. I only had $10 on it but it was a nice collect,” he said.
Incidentally, Burgin part-owns a promising greyhound called To The Galo’s, a winner of five races from just 10 starts, all in provincial Victoria.
“He (To The Galo’s) is a pretty handy type trained by Phillip Smith, and he’ll be having his first run at Sandown Park on Thursday night (Race 2, Box 2 @ 7:25pm),” Ben said with anticipation.
The next Hashtag Competition, which will again have a $50 TAB Voucher up for grabs, will be announced during GRVextra’s Warrnambool Cup Preview in early May.
