Gun sprinter Mackenna is nearing a return to racing.
This time last year she was one of the sport’s hottest prospects after taking out the prestigious Golden Easter Egg. However, she hasn’t been seen since she won a race at The Meadows in August.
“She’s had some muscle issues. It’s been a slow process but she’s back in full work now, if everything goes to plan she’s a few weeks away from returning,” said trainer Paul Abela.
While her return will excite fans, Abela has the cross-hairs firmly on the major events that make up the Dream Chasers carnival in November and December.
“Our main goal is to be firing for races like the Melbourne Cup and The Phoenix. It’s a dream for George (George Alvaro, owner) to win one of them. We have dreams, and that’s what the sport is about.”
We’re six-months out from the Phoenix – slot applications open on Monday July 28.
