GRV update: Horsham abandonment

Greyhound Racing Victoria wishes to provide an update regarding the abandonment of today’s race meeting at Horsham and ongoing issues with the track surface.

Following the abandonment of the race meeting after Race 5 at Horsham on Tuesday 6 June, the Horsham Greyhound Racing Club, in conjunction with the GRV track maintenance team, undertook remedial works on the track from Thursday until this morning in preparation for this afternoon’s race meeting.

Unfortunately, it is extremely disappointing that the track has not reached a satisfactory state for racing and as a result GRV Stewards have abandoned today’s race meeting due to the condition of the track and in the interests of the welfare of the greyhounds.

GRV will be undertaking a thorough review of the processes and work undertaken in the past week to ensure a repeat situation does not occur before granting approval for a return to racing at Horsham.

Further, the race meetings set down for Horsham on Sunday 18 June and Tuesday 20 June have been removed from the calendar and any replacement venue/s for these meetings will be announced on Wednesday.

GRV apologises to all participants that have been impacted as a result of this unacceptable situation. Prizemoney from today’s meeting will be split between eligible runners at the time of the abandonment.
