$30,000 ‘Profit’ in The Emerald?

Astute Buln Buln East trainer Steve White is eyeing a two-state ‘windfall’ this weekend.

White is hoping to nett a ‘$70,000 bonanza’ courtesy of Not For Profit and Paua Of Silence on Sunday.

Not For Profit contests the inaugural Sportsbet ‘The Emerald’ final (300m) – Race 9, 2.37pm – at Healesville, while Paua Of Silence is engaged in the $54,300 Temora Cup final (457m) – Race 7, 7.57pm.

The finals are worth $30,000 and $40,000 to-the-winner respectively and White’s ‘great white hopes’ will both exit from box six.

“He came out like a jet last week and I’m hoping he can do the
same again.”

Sportsbet has marked Not For Profit $3.40 equal favourite with Unleash Collinda, and at the time of writing no starting price was available for Paua Of Silence.

White is enthusiastic about the chances of Not For Profit (12 from 15) – Traralgon’s 350m track record holder (19.31sec) – but not as effusive with Paua Of Silence (13 from 27).

“He (Not For Profit) came out like a jet last week and I’m hoping he can do the same again,” he said. He’ll be hard to beat if he comes out.

“But they can all run time and it could be a case of who gets the better luck.

“From here, I’m looking at a country cups campaign with him. I’ll try and step him up in class and distance.”

The innovative ‘The Emerald’ series looms as a ‘war of attrition’ between Not For Profit and Jason Thompson’s speed demon Unleash Collinda (Box 5), which holds the 300m (16.057sec) and 350m (18.641sec) track records at Healesville.

Unleash Collinda (20 from 30) has won his past five starts and is unbeaten in four starts over 300m up Healesville’s straight track.

But Not For Profit (16.13sec) was the fastest qualifier from ‘The Emerald’ four-dog heats on Tuesday. Unleash Collinda clocked 16.28sec.

Meanwhile, Paua Of Silence takes on a classy line-up at Temora – including the Anthony Azzopardi-trained Salad Dodger, which broke the track record (25.42sec) in a heat. Paua Of Silence semaphored 25.69sec.

“He’s very strong, but it’s a hard cup,” White said. “However, he’s well boxed out where he is.

“But he can’t give them too much of a start. He can show it at times, but he’s not blessed with great early pace.”

White also informed that his flying machine Paua Of Buddy has been retired.

He won the 2021 G2 Bendigo Cup and was runner-up in the 2022 G1 Hobart Thousand. He also holds Warragul’s 400m track record (21.999sec).

Paua Of Buddy, which will soon commence stud duties, had 34 starts for 17 wins, six seconds and four thirds with $146,840 in prizemoney.

WATCH: NOT FOR PROFIT (B5) sets the track alight with a scintillating 16.13sec (Best) ‘The Emerald’ heat win on Tuesday.
