‘Orson’ free service is awesome

Coursing classics, the Victorian Derby and Victorian Oaks first rounds commence at Longwood with great prizemoney for all events on Sunday.

And the club has been fortunate to secure sponsorship for its Longwood Cup courtesy of Meticulous Lodge, which has generously donated a free service (valued at $3300) to retired champion and reigning Victorian Greyhound of the Year, Orson Allen.

Trained by Correy Grenfell during his illustrious racing career, Orson Allen (May ’16 KC And All x Desalle Bale) won 31 races from 61 starts and $620,300 in stakes.

Orson Allen contested four Group 1 finals, winning last year’s Perth Cup (520m) at Cannington and Harrison-Dawson (515m) at Sandown. He was also runner-up in the 2018 Maturity Classic (525m) and last year’s Temlee (525m) – both at The Meadows.

An incredible 15-time group race finalist, Orson Allen also won last year’s G2 Horsham Cup (485m) and G2 Cranbourne Cup (520m), and the 2018 G3 Shootout (515m) at Sandown. (He established a 26.87sec track record in the Horsham Cup.)

Pawnote: Greyhound Transport Australia is also donating a $150 transport voucher for the winner of the Bert Clark Memorial.

It can be a tough decision handing a greyhound over to someone else to train. Just ask Matthew Clark, who’ll be watching Saturday night’s Winter Cup Final in Perth from the other side of the country.
