GRV will increase the number of ‘Hybrid’ race meetings from Friday 7 June onwards with the aim to better utilise the current active greyhound racing population. A ‘Hybrid’ meeting is a Provincial Full Stakes meeting with advertised rank limit events (Eg. 250+ Ranking).
The announcement comes as the total number of nominations for Provincial Full Stakes meetings has continued to decline in recent months and ‘hybrid’ meetings allow for greyhounds of lesser ability to compete against greyhounds of a similar level for full stakes prizemoney.
From 1 Mach 2019, Horsham and Warrnambool have conducted regular ‘hybrid’ meetings along with 250+ Rank Limit events being programmed at Sale, Sandown (SAP) and The Meadows (MEP).
The new 275+ Rank Limit events will now be programmed at Healesville, Warragul, Ballarat, Cranbourne, Shepparton, Bendigo and Geelong.
All Rank Limit races at provincial venues will be single stage events, while The Meadows (MEP) and Sandown (SAP) will continue to conduct heats and finals of these events, with the finals conducted a week later at the MEP/SAP meeting.
A Grade 5 Non-Penalty Rank Limit event and Restricted Win (1-3 Wins) Rank Limit event will be advertised at all Provincial Full Stakes meetings with the distance alternating on a weekly basis.
**Please note if sufficient nominations for the regular program are received, these Rank Limit events will be the last races added to the program. Preference will be given to Provincial Full Stakes graded races**
