Vale Joe Pearl

Joe Pearl, trainer of 1990 Australian Cup winner Spread Eagled, has passed away at age 88.

Based in Corio, Joe was a Life Member of the Geelong Greyhound Racing Club, the National Coursing Association of Victoria and the Geelong Irish Society.

“Joe was heavily involved with the NCA, while his wife, Wendy was on the board of the Geelong Greyhound Racing Club,” said Geelong GRC Chairman, Mark Pearson.

“I can recall when Spread Eagled won the Australian Cup at Olympic Park, Joe famously lifted the dog up after the race and said ‘this is the ice-cream on the cake’. He obviously meant to say icing, not ice-cream, which made the crowd laugh.”

Funeral details to come.
