COURSING: Chasing the spoils in the Doyle

Lang Lang will host a one of its major meetings on Victoria’s coursing calendar on Sunday, spearheaded by the final rounds of the Sylvester Doyle Puppy Championship.

Six events of the Sylvester Doyle Puppy Championship were held last weekend, with a number of keen young pups coursing three times to gain a berth in Sunday’s finals.

Among the main chances is Johnnie Red (pictured above left), a winner of three races from 11 starts on TAB tracks.

“Johnnie Red is a strong young dog who improved with every course last weekend to earn his place in the finals,” National Coursing Association Secretary, Sue Delaney said of the Russell McRae-trained greyhound.

“Sugar Hit Johnny, trained by Barry Marshall, also ran a quick course.”

The late Sylvester Doyle is an inductee in GRV’s Hall of Fame.

Other highlights on Sunday’s card includes the Ray Boundy Memorial and the Gippsland Cup.
