Baines Park a wonderful example of coursing extending racing careers

2016 Werribee Cup runner-up Baines Park will line up in Western Saws Cup at Longwood tomorrow.

Longwood is hosting the meeting on behalf of the Melton Coursing Club, which is currently in recess.

The Western Saws Cup – which boasts a first prize of $1,000 – is one of the premier events hosted by Melton each year.

Trained by David Dawson, four-year-old Baines Park has had eight starts at TAB tracks for zero placings, however she has made an excellent career out of coursing.

“Baines Park has won three coursing events in her career dating back to 2014, and with a second placing in the Werribee Cup she is one of the most exciting greyhounds on the coursing circuit,” said National Coursing Association Secretary, Sue Delaney.

“She’ll line up against Sun Choice in the first round of the Western Saws Cup. Sun Choice has won seven races (from 28 starts) on TAB tracks, but this is her first season of coursing.”

Sun Choice won her first two coursing events before being run out in the first course of the Victoria Coursing Club Cup last week.
