Clubs Turn Green To Assist Melbourne’s Greyhound Demand

Some might find this hard to believe, but Victoria’s Greyhound Adoption Program is battling to keep up with the demand for greyhounds as pets.

More Melbournians than ever are realising how well greyhounds adapt to different lifestyles, in particular apartment-living where there has been a massive boom in adoptions.

As such, the Greyhound Adoption Program has introduced a number of new initiatives aimed at making it faster and more convenient to admit a greyhound into the GAP.

Starting in July Sandown, Bendigo and Geelong will each hold monthly sessions where greyhounds will be temperament tested to assess their suitability as pets.

To book your greyhound/s into one of these sessions owners and trainers are advised that bookings are made on specific days, always on Tuesdays and approximately five weeks prior to your preferred session.

Greyhounds that pass the temperament test will be taken by GAP staff to Seymour headquarters before going into foster care, while those deemed by GAP to have an exemplary temperament will be adopted immediately into new homes.
