Youngster Wins His First Share In A Greyhound

Greyhound enthusiast Ben Tait was one of the happiest people at the Sandown Cup after he scratched his way to a 10 per cent share in top class greyhound, Dream It for the next 12 months.

Sandown gave away scratchies to everyone who placed a bet on course at the Cup, with the share in Dream It being the major prize.

Trained by top trainer Brooke Ennis, Dream It has had 14 wins from 31 starts in his first nine months of racing, during which time he has won $97,000 in prize money.

“I’ve been coming to Sandown pretty much every week for the last few months and I’ve been talking with a few mates about buying our first greyhound, so this is really exciting,” said Tait, 24, from Mooroolbark.

“I didn’t realise a share in Dream It was being given away until I got to Sandown tonight. I placed a bet and got a scratchie from the lady at the TAB window and started scratching away. I noticed I had scratched three dogs, but I was thinking you must have to get three in a row or something.”

“I showed her my ticket just to be sure and she was as shocked as I was when she saw I had won.”

“It’s pretty amazing. I’ll be watching him (Dream It) race in person wherever he goes from now on.”

Meanwhile, another patron left the Sandown Cup $20,000 richer after participating in ‘The Dog, The Money or The Box’, an on-course game show hosted on the night by Eddie McGuire and TAB’s Jaimee Rogers.
