ZARA’S AUSTRALIAN CUP

Zara Zulu took full advantage of her box 1 draw to land trainer Ros Hume her first group win and owner Geoff Collins his second Australian Cup.

A daughter of Mogambo and Zulu Zepha, Zara Zulu led virtually all the way, staving off a persistent Gordon Bale in the dying moments to claim a $175,000 first prize.

Ten years earlier Collins won the Australian Cup with the Robbie Britton-trained Isa Brown.

Zara Zulu’s win was a double bonus for Collins, who stands emerging sire Mogambo at stud.
