PREVIEW: Healesville Puppy Championship

With $5,000 up for grabs at Healesville today, there is no wonder we see a group of exciting young greyhounds up the straight.

Below are my thoughts on how the race is going to pan out…

1ST: Paua Of Terror is a devastatingly quick short course sprinter who has won seven of his nine starts and looks extremely hard to beat. He has drawn beautifully in box 1 to lead and win. He was strong late in his heat win after a slower start than usual, but generally he steps cleanly and if he does again here he should be very hard to run down.
2ND: Bourban An Khan was a recent winner of the El Grand Senor Classic at Sale and from the outside draw here he will have every opportunity to win another feature. He is armed with high speed and will get clear running from box 8. If he finds the front he will take beating and he is certainly the main danger to the favourite.
3RD: Bide Time was exceptional in his heat win running the fastest time (16.60sec). He has drawn awkwardly here in the squeeze but he is the most experienced runner in the field, and I believe he is capable of overcoming that. If he can repeat his heat run he will be fighting out the finish that’s for sure.
4TH: Like A Fancy has drawn perfectly here in box 2, which should see her follow the favourite. She has won four of her seven starts and is an extremely promising sprinter. She is still a major player, and I see the value as an each way bet.
