Borg: Passion Key to Success in Sport

Joe Borg, of Maryborough, believes passion for the sport, the greyhound and the people involved in greyhound racing is his key to success.

Borg is extremely passionate about the sport he loves and this Saturday night has Ralphy Cinel engaged in a heat of the Group 1 Gold 1242 Sale Cup (650m).

“I’m over the moon at the moment I couldn’t be happier being in the sport,” Borg said on Wednesday.

“I just want to see the sport – and the people in the sport – flourish.

“Whenever people ask for help I’m more than happy to give it to them because I love the people involved.”

This passion has led Joe to have great success and his current star greyhound, Ralphy Cinel, could continue that run.

After a stellar performance throughout the Group 3 Sir John Dillon Memorial (595m) series at Sandown Park where he ran a blistering 33.940 secs in his heat followed by a gutsy performance in the final to run third behind Lamia Bale and Awesome Project, Ralphy is ready to tackle the Sale Cup.

“When he gets down to the rails and leads he is as good as any other dog going around,” Borg says

“I thought his run in the Sir John Dillon final was almost as good as a win because he had box seven and was crunched straight out of the boxes so I was so proud of him.”

The son of High Earner and Fantasy has a difficult task of making the final coming up against talented greyhounds such as; Sweet It Is, Coulta Rock and Sisco Rage in heat four (race eight) at Sale on Saturday.

“He’s got the champion Sweet It Is in his heat and there is speed in the race from Sisco Rage and Coulta Rock.

“Even though he is drawn in box eight there’s a long straight before the first turn so hopefully he can get a clear run and be up near the leaders.”

The heats of the Group 1 Gold 1242 Sale Cup will be run this Saturday. The heats will be broadcast on SKY 2 and the final will be run on Boxing Day.
