Monday night greyhound racing comes to Warrnambool

Greyhound racing in Warrnambool will leverage even more from thoroughbred racing’s hugely popular annual carnival, with Wannon Park to host a race meeting on Monday night.

Warrnambool’s three day thoroughbred carnival runs from Tuesday to Thursday, however there will be plenty of holidaymakers looking for an entertainment option in the lead up.

“We’re pumped for a big week next week,” Warrnambool GRC Manager Craig Monagatti told RSN’s Talking Greyhounds host, Simone Fisher.

“We’re unofficially launching the Racing Carnival on Monday night…that’s my take on it anyway,” he laughed.

“We’re giving Monday night a go and it has been well received by the trainers because we’ve had 137 nominations.”

“There’s a lot of tourists that come to town on the Monday so it gives them the chance to get their punting week started.”

Monday night’s race meeting will kick off at 7.05pm, while a huge crowd is expected at greyhound racing’s Group 2 Macey’s Bistro Warrnambool Cup on Wednesday night, with drawcard Orson Allen chasing a $50,000 triple country cups bonus and Crimson Vixen aiming to become the first local greyhound to win the cup since 1999.
