Above All Breaks Hobart Track-Record in Group 1 Romp

Above All stunned the Hobart crowd breaking Paw Licking’s track-record on his way to an incredible victory in the Group 1 Hobart Thousand (461m) last night.

Trained by Rob Britton and bred in New Zealand, Above All (box five – $5.20) raced to an ever-increasing seven-length win stopping the clock at an outrageous 25.52 secs.

During the 2013 Hobart Thousand series, Black Magic Opal broke the Hobart record in his heat running 25.65 secs. The following week Paw Licking lowered that mark to 25.62 secs. It was thought that due to these two greyhounds being two of the fastest ever to grace a U-Turn track that the record would stand for a number of years.

Above All had other ideas. Spearing out of box five the son of Magic Sprite and Kara Janx dominated the race.

It was a Victorian trifecta in the race with Ride the Rails (box seven – $7.00) finished second and TAB Melbourne Cup winner Dyna Villa (box two – $2.50F) finishing third.

It was the first Group race victory for Above All. His career record now stands at eight wins and two placings from 13 starts. The $75,000 first-prize took his career earnings beyond $100,000 in what could be the start of a special period of dominance.
