Michael Harms Appointed to GRV Board

Premier and Minister for Racing Denis Napthine has announced the appointment of media and marketing executive Mr Michael Harms to the Board of Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV).

Dr Napthine said Mr Harms’ previous roles have included being Executive Chairman of RSN racing and sport radio station, a partner and business director at national marketing agency George Patterson Partners and managing director of Channel Seven Melbourne.

“Michael Harms will bring considerable marketing and media experience to the GRV Board as it continues to grow and reaches out to new sectors within the Victorian community,” Dr Napthine said.

“Greyhound racing is important to the Victorian economy, providing an annual economic benefit of $315 million to the State with around 20,000 participants and employees involved in the industry,” he said.

The 2013/14 GRV Annual Report recently released highlighted significant achievements for the industry including:

a 3.1 per cent increase in wagering turnover on Victorian greyhound racing to $826 million.
– greyhound racing’s market share of wagering in Victoria has increased from 17.2 per cent in 2010 to 20.1 per cent in 2014;
– a $4 million increase in stakemoney and bonuses for a total $41.8 million (in 2010 total stakemoney was less than $25 million); and
– a 6 per cent increase in attendances at Victorian greyhound racetracks.

“I would like to sincerely thank John Tripodi who has chosen to step down from the GRV board. Since his appointment in 2012, Mr Tripodi has provided significant expertise and input to the industry and played an important role in its growth,” Dr Napthine said.
