Derby win makes it a Victorian double

Victorian greyhound Sennachie has claimed the Group 2 Queensland Derby (520m) with a dominant display at Albion Park tonight.

It was a clean sweep for Victorian greyhounds in Brisbane’s age-restricted same-sex series after Circle Of Dreams took out last week’s Bogie Leigh Futurity for female greyhounds.

Sennachie was the only Victorian contender in the $40,000 to-the-winner final following the scratching of the David Burnett-trained Onions O’Reilly. He extended his record to eight wins from 15 starts with a comfortable 7.5 lengths win in 29.53sec over Bad Benny and King Cratos.

This was Sennachie’s second appearance in a group final having run second in the Group 1 Silver Chief at The Meadows in January.

Sennachie (Fernando Bale – Rhonda Rocks) was bred in SA by Zbigniew Wudarczyk and is owned by the Corby Wudarczyk Syndicate, which is managed by Kirin Corby.

The win continued trainer Steve White’s stunning recent run after he took out last month’s Group 2 Launching Pad at Sandown Park with Tauwitcherie, a greyhound also owned by Kirin.

WATCH: Sennachie (6) never gave his rivals a chance in the Queensland Derby.
