Bendigo Saturday morning meeting

Due to the forecast hot weather, the Bendigo meeting on Friday, December 7 has been rescheduled to Saturday, December 8 from 9.30am to 1pm.

The races will be broadcast on Sky Channel and are an excellent opportunity for people to get out to the track and make the most of their weekend; greyhound enthusiasts can get a jump start on a great day of racing, entertainment and lunch at the track.

This meeting provides an opportunity for the sport to explore more permanent Saturday morning meetings throughout Victoria.

During the summer, greyhound races may be cancelled when the temperatures are too high, and the greyhounds’ safety is at risk.

As part of GRV’s commitment to ensuring the highest standard of animal welfare, GRV’s Hot Weather Policy ensures meetings are marked as ‘hot weather affected’ when the forecast maximum temperature at the venue is 32°C or higher.

Morning meetings would allow the greyhounds to race before the peak daily temperatures and could prevent the dogs from overheating.

Regardless of the start time, meetings must still meet the policy requirements, which ensure the greyhounds are properly transported, hydrated and cooled down on hot weather affected days.

If the upcoming meeting is a success, Saturday mornings will be considered on a more permanent basis, pending agreement with Sky Racing.
