Gold Cup upsets

Queensland’s Group 1 Gold Cup (710m) series was thrown open when superstar Victorian litter brothers, Tornado Tears and Rippin’ Sam, were beaten in their respective heats on Thursday night despite starting as odds-on favourites.

Both greyhounds encountered interference and finished third, however with only two heats being conducted the first four across the finish line have progressed through to this Thursday night’s $75,000 to-the-winner final at Albion Park.

Tornado Tears remains a firm $1.70 favourite to win the final ahead of fellow Robert Britton-trained greyhounds Rippin’ Sam ($3.30) and Benali ($8).
