Elevated v My Redeemer one of many highlights on action-packed Speed Star night

Greyhound racing’s newest and most exciting format, the Speed Star, will take over the entire card at Sandown Park on Thursday night.

Forty of Australia’s fastest greyhounds are set to race head-to-head in 20 match races, with a match approximately every eight minutes.

Punters are a one in two chance of picking a winner, with a popular betting option being multis – very similar to backing a few teams across a weekend of football.

Perhaps the most anticipated match is between Elevated and My Redeemer, who are the two fastest greyhounds over 515m at Sandown Park in 2018, with just 0.007 seconds separating them.

Elevated’s trainer Harry Manolitsis is cautious about his charge’s chances tomorrow night.

“They can both lead, they both have great mid-race pace and are both strong. It’s an advantage having the inside draw but she hasn’t had a 500m run for five weeks so she is slightly underdone,” he said.

David Geall, trainer of My Redeemer, said little separated the pair: “They’ll be going neck and neck early, and whoever can pinch half a length break will probably win.”

Greyhounds qualify for Speed Star night based on their times at Sandown Park in 2018, with matches to be run over 515m, 595m and 715m.

TAB is offering a range of different markets including head-to-head multis, which greyhound will run the fastest first sectional, the exact times greyhounds will run, whether a track record will be broken and more.
