MATCHMAKER FINAL: No Flash in the Pan

Friday night feature racing heads to Shepparton for the final of the $14,200 Matchmaker (450m), which includes a $10,000 prize.

First and second placegetters from Monday’s four heats have made this prestigious final and, while it looks quite a tough race on paper, I am pretty keen on the chances of Bombora Flash (1). She has never started from Box 1 before, but I think she is perfectly drawn.

Miss Rossi and Wombat are drawn to her immediate outside and they possess terrific early pace, so I expect Bombora Flash to settle behind that pair.

The two leaders I mentioned are both a little suspect at the end of the 450m, and I think if Bombora Flash is close enough to them turning for home then she can finish over the top of them.

I have her on top over Wombat (3), who I think will eventually lead, while for third place I like Mepunga Treasure (5). If she can overcome the horror draw she is a definite winning chance, and for fourth I’m leaning toward Miss Rossi (2).

If she can keep Wombat off the rails at the end first corner she will be in front for a long way.

I’m happy to risk tipping against Alpha Demeter (8), marked $3.30Fav with The Watchdog, as I think he is drawn poorly in Box 8.
