Rule Amendments

Rule Amendments – Commencing 1st May 2014

All participants are asked to note the following amendments to the GRV Racing Rules, effective 1st May 2014.
Local Racing Rules

• LRR 29.2 – Amends eligibility conditions to prevent a greyhound being raced in Victoria on successive days. Instead this rule only permits a greyhound to be raced once over any two day period.

Whilst the occurrence of a greyhound in Victoria being raced on successive days is a relatively rare event, this rule is considered highly significant for the purposes of animal welfare.
• LRR 42.5 – Adds an extra clause to the ‘Welfare of Greyhounds’ section of the rulebook to indicate that a ‘meeting’ cannot proceed unless a veterinary surgeon is physically present on the racecourse. A ‘Meeting’ is defined in the national rules to cover race meetings, qualifying (selection) trials and coursing – (not club or private trials).

As a matter of policy, GRV has followed this direction for many years – however the purpose of this amendment is to enshrine such policy within the rules.

• PART 21 – This section has been added to the rules to formalise the appointment and function of the GRV Integrity Council.

• RULE 8 (Guarding)

This rule – which has previously permitted ‘guarding’ of greyhounds for coursing events – has been deleted.

This amendment was directly requested by the National Coursing Association of Victoria (NCAV) following the NCAV AGM held on 18th October 2013.

Please note that this rule will be operating from the first meeting of the 2014 Coursing Season, which is scheduled to be conducted at Melton on 4th May.
