Fanta Bale the Sydney Cup favourite

Saturday night’s $25,000-to-the-winner Group 3 Sydney Cup final (720m) at Wentworth Park features a lopsided market with superstar Victorian greyhound Fanta Bale a red-hot $1.40 favourite as she continues her charge towards $1 million in prize money.

While the versatile eight-time Group 1 winner is easily the most accomplished greyhound in the race, she won her heat by just half a length (over Scott Keeping) and ran little more than a length faster than the other heat winner (Packey Keeping), indicating that the race could be a lot closer than the market suggests.

“All group races are hard to win but we expect a forward showing from her,” announced Fanta Bale’s handler, Brendan Pursell. “Fanta has had her usual routine this week which has done her well. She is experienced with travel so nothing changes with her. She will leave for her drive to Sydney early on Saturday morning.”formguideButton

A win in the Sydney Cup will see Fanta Bale climb to $964,835 in prize money, with excitement building towards her anticipated passing of the $1 million barrier on Topgun night at The Meadows on October 28, with an invitation accepted on her behalf to compete in the $75,000 to-the-winner Topgun Stayers (725m).
