Calder Cannon has almost certainly secured his place in the Ready 2 Race Mid Year Bonus Race following a commanding victory at Sandown Park on Thursday night.

The Mid Year Bonus Race – to be held as part of the Bendigo Cup card on Friday July 3 – is open to the 96 greyhounds sold at last November’s 2014 R2R Sales, with the top 10 prize money earners since the sales up until 20 June, 2015 to qualify.

Calder Cannon, trained by Katharine Gorman for the Calder Cannons FC Syndicate, won an $11,500 first prize in Thursday night’s GRV to the City Warragul Distance Final (715m) at Sandown, pushing him into fourth place with $17,960 in career earnings.

Winner of the R2R Mid Year Bonus Race will earn a further $7,000, plus $1,000 for the person that nominated the greyhound for sale at the 2014 R2R series.

The Mid Year Bonus Race is one of two races open to greyhounds sold at the 2014 R2R series, the other being the Ready 2 Race Championship ($25,000 to the winner) to be held on Shootout Night at Sandown Park in November.
